GUWAHATI: On Friday night, a wild elephant entered into a tea estate in Assam's Nagaon district, killing one tea worker and seriously injuring at least four others.

The tragic incident has been reported from the Hatigaon tea estate in Kaliabor.

According to sources, the tusker terrorised the workers who were taking a break from a long day of work, at the tea farm.

Laxman Minj, one of the labourers, passed away during the incident, while four others were hurt. Prakash Ekka, Pratap Ekka, Dhiraj Tirki, and Shani Kerketa has been identified as the injured, and they were all sent to a hospital for treatment.

As soon as the information was received by the forest department, a team of forest officials arrived at the spot and took notes of the matter.

According to authorities, it is believed that the wild elephant wandered into the tea estate in quest of food.

The conflict between humans and animals is becoming more frequent in some areas of Assam.

A man was recently killed at Cotton Mill in Balipara's Chariduar Village in Sonitpur after being crushed to death by a wild elephant. The horrific death occurred when the deceased went to feed the elephant a banana.

Significantly, a network of local communities known as the Elephant Conservation Network (ECN) has been established in numerous conflict areas of the state in an effort to lessen the rampantly escalating human-elephant conflict in Assam.

This can be referred to as an innovative strategy used in Assam, the state that is home to the second-largest population of Asian elephants in the world.

Udalguri, Baksa, and Goalpara districts in the state are among those where man-eland conflict is most prevalent.

Aaranyak, a group actively striving to reduce human-elephant conflicts for both human well-being and to help with Asian elephant conservation, launched the campaign.
