Guwahati: Bihu is in the air in the state of Assam with the people celebrating the Assamese new year across the state with their loved ones.

However, an unfortunate incident has occurred in Sonapur under the Kamrup Metropolitan district. A man has allegedly slid the throat of a shopkeeper over a fight for Rs. 100.

As per reports, the accused has been identified as Samad Ali, a fish farmer, and his son allegedly stole Rs. 100 from the shop of Ramjan Ali.

The shopkeeper informed about the incident to Samad Ali the following day, after which a tussle erupted between the two.

The scuffle further escalated so much so that Samad allegedly attacked Ramjan with a sharp machete on his neck. Ramjan reportedly lost his life on the spot.

Surprisingly, Samad walked into a police station with blood-soaked clothes and surrendered himself before the police.

According to reports, the locals were outraged after hearing about the incident. They were so furious that they allegedly set the residence of Samad Ali on fire.

Later, fire tenders rushed to the spot and they managed to keep the situation under control.

Meanwhile, the police informed that the machete have been seized and they have taken Samad Ali and his father into police custody.

Earlier, one person drowned in the Ojlasuti River at Gorehagi village in Biswanath Chariali district on April 14.

According to reports, the deceased who was identified as Nitul Saikia drowned in the river while crossing it after bathing his cow as a part of the rituals of Goru Bihu.

The incident took place at Gorehagi village. However, locals of the area rescued his body from the river.
