Man With Four Fake Gold Biscuits Arrested In Rangia

Guwahati: A man who is suspected to be a "fake gold" smuggler was apprehended from Rangia's Udiana on May 6 and four counterfeit gold biscuits was recovered from his possession.

According to reports, the police had received information about a gang coming to Rangia with smuggled gold.

An operation was launched in the area where the suspected persons were believed to be present and the police initiated the operation based on the inputs they received.

The police said that they found a person who had four gold biscuits in his possession during this operation. However, the biscuits turned out to be fake after they were verified.

The accused had brought the fake gold in order to sell it to some contact in Udiana area under the pretext that the gold was real.

The suspected "fake gold" smuggler has been identified as Abdul Kadir, who hails from Tezpur. He has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.

The attention of the police has now shifted to other people who are suspected to be involved in the case and efforts are underway to hunt them down.

Earlier, the Dispur Police had arrested a person for allegedly trading fake gold to one in Guwahati.

The suspected person had been identified as Faridul Islam of Naoboicha in the Lakhimpur district.

He had come to Guwahati to sell a block of counterfeit gold to a person in Dispur.

As per the client, they had fixed the deal for the counterfeit gold for Rs 40000 and two mobile handsets.

On closing the deal, the client found out that the gold was fake and then he along with a friend rushed to the police.

Based on the complaint, the police tracked down the suspected person and found him in a new commercial complex in the Dispur area.

The client, Azizur Rahman claimed that he had nothing to do with the illegal trade but he was a genuine buyer who was interested in buying gold.
