Mangaldai pays homage to Dr Bhupen Hazarika

MANGALDAI: Along with the rest of the State, rich tribute was paid to musical maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika by various organizations on his seventh death anniversary in Mangaldai where he had spent couple of years of his adolescence along with his family. Several socio-cultural organizations of greater Chapai area near Mangaldai, including Chapai Yuva Kalyan Kendra, Padum Pahi Maina Parizat, Chapai Sahitya Sabha, Saloipara Kalyani Mahila Samiti, and Chapai Bihu Celebration Committee on Monday jointly observed the day. The day-long celebration began in the early morning with prabhat pheri from Chapai Nehru Maidan to Mangaldai town where over 300 people from Chapai and nearby villages like Saloipara, Gadhiyapara and Medhipara took part with their voices echoing the evergreen songs of Sudhakantha. This was followed by lighting of the lamp and floral tribute before the portrait of the cultural icon.

In the afternoon, a special cultural and literary programme was organized at the Gadhiyapara Bishnu Temple campus under the chairmanship of Laksmi Kanta Sarma, president of Chapai Sahitya Sabha, which was inaugurated by child artiste Khanjan Deka. The function witnessed presentation of songs, poems and speech by different participants irrespective of age, caste and religion.

BILASIPARA: Under the aegis of Dr BR Ambedkar Bhavan Management Committee, Bilasipara, the 7th death anniversary of Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed on Monday with a colourful day-long programme. In this connection, Dr. Kanu Lal Das, the donor of the statue of Dr. Hazarika as well as he secretary of the Dr. BR Ambedkar Bhavan Management Committee, garlanded the statue of Dr Hazarika while Bhabani Dhar Sarma, officer-in-charge of Bilasipara Police Station, lit the ceremonial lamp. Renowned artiste of Goalparia folk song, Abdul Karim Khan offered floral tribute to the statue of Dr. Hazarika.

Thereafter, a seminar was held on the topic Manuhe manuhar babe, with Dayal Paul, president of the Bhavan committee as moderator, was held. Dr. Hari Charan Das, librarian of Bilasipara College, and Hridayananda Das, former Principal of Bilasipara Public HS School, delivered lectures on the topic as resource persons. Before the seminar, Dayal Paul garlanded the portrait of Dr. Hazarika.

Blankets were distributed among 30 poor widows. Nantu Sarker and his party sang a few songs of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. In the evening, the statue of Dr. Hazarika was illuminated. Homage was paid to Dr.Hazarika in the Bilasipara Subdivisional Public Library in the evening. Abdul Karim Khan garlanded the portrait of Dr. Hazarika while Dayal Paul lit the ceremonial lamp. Dr. Kanu al Das offered floral tribute on the portrait of Dr. Hazarika. AASU Bilasipara unit and Sanskritic Mahasangha, Bilasipara branch, also observed the death anniversary of Dr. Hazarika with colourful programmes.
