Manipur Landslide: 17 Labourers From Assam's Morigaon Missing, One Dead

Manipur CM has called for an emergency meeting in order to evaluate the situation of the landslide and he directed the authorities to expedite rescue operations.

Guwahati: A total of 17 labourers hailing from Assam's Morigaon are reported to have been missing in a massive landslide that took place near a railway construction camp in Noney district of Manipur on June 30.

Reportedly, at least 7 people were killed and over dozens are still reported to be missing.

One of the seven killed happened to be a labourer, identified as 32 year-old-Gopal Phukan, and he hailed from Assam.

Around five Assam labourers, who are under critical condition, have been admitted to a nearby hospital.

The missing labourers have been identified as Dipankar Barad (27), Hanuman Konwar (47), Sanal Konwar (30), Utpal Phukan (40), Momin Deka Raja (40), Akash, Ram (21), Pallava Loram (22), Devojit Phukan (23), Bogyant Loram (40), Ramu Phukan (35), Kushtali's Junti Barad (27) and Laubhurunga's Harmohan Deka (30).

On the other hand, labourers who are kept under medical observations have been identified as Praladh Basumatary, Maniram Phukan, Ramen Phukan, Moheswar Phukan and Jun Basumatary.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in view of the landslide.

Shah informed that rescue operations were in full swing. "A team of NDRF has already reached the spot and joined the rescue operations. 2 more teams are on their way to Tupul," he said.
