Manipur Violence: Assam Christians March in Solidarity Against Manipur Violence

GUWAHATI: Religious leaders representing the Assam Christian Forum (ACF) and the Conference of Religious India-North East (CRI-NEI) recently organized a solidarity prayer event at the Don Bosco School Playground in Guwahati, Assam. The purpose of the event, which took place from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM, was to draw attention to the urgent need for peace and stability in Manipur, a state plagued by conflict.

During the prayer gathering, the religious leaders expressed their concerns and called upon both the central government and the Manipur government to take decisive actions to restore peace, security, and justice for the people of Manipur. Despite the deployment of a heavy army, armed forces, and police, the violence that erupted in Manipur on May 3 has not subsided, leaving the affected population in a state of distress and uncertainty.

ACF spokesperson Allen Brooks expressed disappointment with the situation in Manipur, particularly following the visit of the Union home minister, which had raised hopes for an end to the violence. Unfortunately, these hopes were shattered as the violence persisted. In response, the Christian community in Assam united in prayer, seeking divine intervention to bring about a resolution to the conflict.

In light of these distressing happenings, the Christian community of Assam has come together to offer prayers and invoke God's intervention. We earnestly pray for the killings and violence to come to an immediate halt.

“The citizens of Manipur had desperately hoped that the violence would cease after the visit of the Union home minister. However, to their great dismay, the situation on the ground remains unchanged, bringing about a significant setback and deepening the anguish of the affected population,” said ACF spokesperson Allen Brooks.

“May God’s divine intervention bring an end to the violence, restore harmony, and guide our leaders towards the path of justice and reconciliation,” Brook added.

The Assam Christian Forum calls upon the Government, to emphasize the importance of valuing human lives over political agendas. We stress the urgent need for the Government to prioritize resolving the crisis in Manipur by implementing necessary measures that foster peace, harmony, and reconciliation. We urge both the State and Central Governments to collaborate toward a holistic and enduring solution that tackles the underlying causes of the turmoil. Furthermore, we urge all parties involved to participate in constructive dialogue, promoting mutual understanding and seeking opportunities to bridge divides and foster unity among diverse communities.

In conclusion, the Assam Christian Forum (ACF) and the Conference of Religious India-North East (CRI-NEI) joined forces to organize a solidarity prayer event in Guwahati, urging for the restoration of peace in Manipur. The religious leaders called upon the central government and the Manipur government to take appropriate actions in response to the ongoing violence. Expressing disappointment over the situation and the lack of progress despite the presence of security forces, the ACF sought divine intervention. They also condemned the targeting of Christians and alleged complicity between the ruling party and the perpetrators of violence. The ACF appealed to the Arunachal Pradesh government to utilize its influence to help bring about peace in Manipur.
