TINSUKIA: To ensure free, fair and error-free election in 124 Margherita LAC under Tinsukia district, the subdivisional administration has geared up electioneering exercises and preparedness for the polling to be held on March 27. Returning Officer Sampriti Goswami, ADC and i/c SDO(Civil), already had discussion with officials and representatives of Coal India Limited (CIL), APDCL, PHE, garden management and other stakeholders.

Informing the media, Goswami, while stressing three basic components like potable water, hygienic sanitation and uninterrupted power supply in the polling stations on the day of poll, said that election would be held in 243 polling stations with additional 31 auxiliary polling stations to accommodate voters where the number exceeded 1,000. The garden managements have been advised to ensure furniture, ramp, drinking water and toilets in polling booths within their jurisdiction. While APDCL was urged upon to ensure electrical connectivity to some polling stations where there was no electric supply, the PHE department was also advised to ensure water supply to the polling stations, stated a press release issued by Gurmeet Kaur Suri, SDIPRO Margherita, adding that as per COVID protocol and SOPs there would be temperature check for all voters and the voters detected with high temperature would be isolated in shed and they would be allowed to cast their franchise later on.

In respect of postal ballot, 2,234 voters have been categorised under AVSC (Absentee Voters of Senior Citizens) and 452 voters fall under the PWD (Persons With Disabilities) category in 124- Margherita LAC. The process of postal ballot is optional and the voters desirous of availing the facility have to fill up 12 D format and deposit it to the Returning Officer, stated another press release.
