TINSUKIA: The Margherita Journalists’ Association (MJA) has expressed serious concern over the deplorable condition of NH-38 from Powai to Ledu under 124 Margherita LAC in Tinsukia district. In a memorandum to the Chief Minister being sent through the SDO (Civil), the MJA stated that the PWD had released Rs 60 lakh for construction and renovation of the road and alleged that a fat amount had been allegedly swindled by the contractor.
The association has demanded a high-level inquiry into alleged misappropriation of fund and to initiate legal action against the contractor. It has also sought the government to clear its stand within 72 hours, failing which the MJA along with other organizations and conscious citizens would launch phase-wise agitation.
The memo was issued by Ram Prasad Ambedkar and Rana Jyoti Neog, president and secretary of Margherita Journalists’ Association respectively, the copies of which were sent to minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma and SDO(Civil) Margherita.
