Margherita Rape-Murder Case Prime Accused Anan Tanti’s Absconding Son Surrenders
TINSUKIA: The Margherita minor rape and murder case prime accused Anan Tanti’s absconding elder son on Monday surrendered to the police in Margherita.
Anan Tanti's son was reportedly on the run since May 3. After detaining him, the Margherita police are said to be interrogating the teenager.
The Margherita police had earlier arrested Anan Tanti and his wife for their involvement in the case.
It should be noted that, the prime accused in the case Anan Tanti was apprehended from Namsang Tea Estate on the route to Deomali, near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, after the body of the victim girl was recovered from a septic tank at Jayanagar locality under Tinsukia district’s Margherita sub-division. Later, his wife Ganga Tanti alias ‘Mini’ was arrested for allegedly concealing evidence and misleading the police.
Anan Tanti had also received a bullet injury on his leg when he tried to escape from police custody. He was sent to Margherita FRU for initial treatment. He was later referred by doctors to Tinsukia Civil Hospital for further medical supervision.
Prime accused in the minor girl’s rape and murder, Anan Tanti has been booked under section 201, 302, 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 6 of the POCSO act.
Earlier, on Friday, the Tinsukia police arrested the wife of the accused Anan Tanti for allegedly concealing evidence and misleading the police.
The wife of the accused identified as Ganga Tanti alias ‘Mini’ was forwarded to the court for a remand, after she was detained in custody
Margherita Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Hemanta Kumar Boro told the media, “We have arrested the accused Anan Tanti’s wife for misleading the police and concealing the evidence. We will take her into police remand for further interrogation after producing her before the court. By chance, if anyone found to be involved in the heinous crime; he or she will be punished as per the law.”
At the time, the top district police official had also informed that the elder son of the accused is on the run although about his involvement in the crime had not been ascertained.
