LAKHIMPUR: A martial arts training centre was inaugurated at Lakhimpur Commerce College on Monday. An inaugural ceremony was organized by Physical and Mental Wellness Cell of the college for the occasion inside the campus which was attended by the eminent public, veteran sports persons, teachers and students of the college. Dr. Mukunda Rajbangshi, retired Principal of Lakhimpur Girls College, inaugurated the centre in the presence of Principal Dr. Lohit Hazarika. In his inaugural speech Dr Rajbangshi reminded the students about the importance of physical fitness and martial art technique. Citing the example of the jawans of Indian army at the Galwan skirmishes, he said that the physical strength of the soldiers defended the territorial integrity of the country.
The martial arts training centre in Lakhimpur Commerce College, first of its kind among all the colleges of North Lakhimpur will be run in association with Lakhimpur Muwai Thai Association. Alumni of the college, Raju Singh, who is also a trainer of Muai Thai, also spoke in the inaugural ceremony. The secretary of Lakhimpur District Ameture Muai Thai Association, Rabijeet Rajkumar and trainer Umananda Pathak also attended the inaugural session. Dr. Lohit Hazarika, Principal of the college informed the students that a three day free training session of the martial arts would start from Monday. He also said that students from other institutes and general public could also enrol for training at Lakhimpur Commerce College martial art centre.
