Mass cleanliness drive and awareness campaign against single-use plastic in Golaghat

Numaligarh: A mass cleanliness drive and awareness meeting against the use of single-use plastic was held in Rangajan, Golaghat on Saturday.

Tuskers Task Force (TTF), an bio-diversity and environmental conservation organization, with the help of Numaligarh Refinery Ltd CSR scheme, organized the programme. The programme started with a mass cleanliness drive at the market place near Rangajan Tiniali. TTF members, local shopkeepers, and youths of the area participated in the cleanliness drive with much enthusiasm.

Following the cleanliness drive, a public awareness meeting was also held. The meeting was presided over by social worker and Morangi Press Club secretary Priyangdeep Kakoti. The objective and purpose of the meeting were elaborated by TTF secretary-general Rituraj Phukon. Veteran nature conservationist Arup Ballav Goswami along with other dignitaries was also present in the meeting. The ill-effects of single-use plastic on the environment, wildlife and humans were presented by Priyangdeep Kakoti and Rituraj Phukon

TTF secretary-general Rituraj Phukon said, “It is pertinent to mention that Rangajan is currently witnessing a vast expansion of business and commercial activities in the area. With a plastic-free, neat and clean surrounding, the businesses will attract more customers and hence more profit. It is our first step towards the goal of making Rangajan one of the most preferable business hubs of the region and the district. We, along with Rangajan Development Committee and other organizations, will work to give the desired shape and surrounding to Rangajan.”

The programme concluded with a street play performed by invited artistes to create awareness amongst the general public about the ill-effects of single-use plastic.
