Massive Cannabis Bust in Guwahati: Two Arrested with 2640kg of Ganja

GUWAHATI: In the early hours of Wednesday, October 11, law enforcement in Guwahati, Assam, made a significant breakthrough in their fight against illegal narcotics. Acting on precise information, a collaborative effort between the Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD) and the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) culminated in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a substantial quantity of suspected cannabis, commonly known as "ganja."

The operation unfolded at the Basistha area in Guwahati, where authorities intercepted an oil tanker bearing the registration number NL-01-AH-0501. The tanker had recently crossed the border into Assam from Meghalaya, raising suspicions among vigilant officers.

A thorough search of the oil tanker revealed a hidden secret chamber within the vehicle. Inside this concealed compartment were 134 packets containing an astounding 2640 kilograms of suspected cannabis (ganja). The sheer volume of the contraband reflected the magnitude of this illicit operation.

The two individuals responsible for transporting this massive haul of cannabis were swiftly apprehended by the police. The suspects, identified as Kasim Ali (40) and Mukut Ali (44), both hailed from Baksa district in Assam. Their arrest marked a significant step in dismantling the drug trade network responsible for transporting such a large quantity of narcotics across state borders.

In response to this operation, the Assam police wasted no time in initiating legal proceedings against the arrested individuals. The evidence gathered during this operation and the subsequent investigation will play a crucial role in dismantling the drug trafficking network involved in this audacious attempt to smuggle narcotics into the heart of Assam.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement agencies in Assam remain committed to curbing the illegal drug trade, ensuring the safety and well-being of their citizens, and upholding the rule of law. This significant seizure of suspected cannabis serves as a stern warning to those engaged in drug trafficking activities, highlighting the dedication of the police in safeguarding the communities they serve.
