Guwahati: A fire broke out at a pump of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) on Sunday morning near Timtimiya Sardar Path in Jorhat district of Assam.
A sudden fire broke out in the ONGC's oil pipeline passing through the Ahutli farm in front of the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Sports Project here. After this incident, there was panic in the surrounding villages.
According to reports, the local people informed the fire department about the incident and after receiving the same, the ONGC fire trucks immediately rushed to the spot and started dousing the fire.
The fire, which spread over an area of about two kilometers, was brought under control after a lot of effort.
Fortunately, no damage was caused in this fire.
As per the locals, the fire broke out as oil thieves from a local gang were trying to steal oil from the pipeline.
Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police (SP) has reached the spot and investigating the matter.
