Massive protest by AASU against CAA and EIA in Tezpur

TEZPUR: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU), Sonitpur District Committee and Tezpur chapter on Monday staged protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and draft Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), 2020 here at Mission Chariali.

AASU activists formed human chains and the air resonated with slogans. They staged a one-hour protest programme at Mission Charial NH-15 from 11 am. More than 200 AASU activists joined the protest.

The protesters said, "We oppose the CAA tooth and nail, and want its complete withdrawal from the region. The controversial Act will definitely destroy the identity of the indigenous people of the State. It is a ploy of the Centre to destroy the identity of the greater Assamese society. They also demand for withdrawal of the proposed draft EIA. The draft EIA notification-2020 is a serious threat to the environment."
