UDALGURI: The villagers of Khusurabari Habi have expressed their gratitude to Gobinda Chandra Basumatary, the BTC deputy chief and MLA of Udalguri constituency, for his immediate measures to protect the village from Golandi river erosion.

The village has been facing continuous threat from the erosion of Golandi River. More than 250 bighas of cultivable land have submerged into the river. Several households were displaced and had to shift their houses due to unabated erosion of the river. A committee was also formed to protect the village from the threat of the river. Lal Bahadur Tamang is the president while Meghnath Sarma is general secretary to the committee. The flood-affected families of the village are members of the committee. The committee had approached BTC deputy chief to take measures to curb the unabated erosion of the Golandi River and Gobinda Chandra Basumatary visited the erosion site and took immediate measures to provide relief to the affected villagers. He ordered a survey of the Golandi river erosion and a scheme to address the problem. A temporary bundh was erected in the river to check the erosion of the river at the initiative of the BTC deputy chief.
