TINSUKIA:  A district-level committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was held on Monday under the chairmanship of District Commissioner Tinsukia Swapneel Paul. The meeting discussed various measures to be taken to curb drug abuse and trafficking in the district. The DC took a detailed look at the steps taken by the police to curb the smuggling of drugs and other narcotic substances in the district. They also discussed the government and private drug rehabilitation centres in the district and emphasized on improving the quality of these rehabilitation centres.

The District Commissioner also emphasized on creating awareness about the harms of drugs and other narcotic substances at school and college levels. He also suggested involving the members of NCC and NSS in the ‘Prahari’ clubs formed in all schools and colleges in the district. He also directed the concerned departments to create awareness in the areas known as hotspots of drug and narcotic use in the district and keep more vigilance besides directing the municipality officials to check whether the ban on the sale of cigarettes, gutka, pan masala and other narcotics within a 100-metre radius of educational institutions being enforced. The meeting was attended by police officials of Tinsukia and Sadiya police district, the executive officers of all municipal bodies and concerned government officials.
