Media body appreciates Darrang Deputy Commissioner for his positive response

MANGALDAI: In a quick and positive response to the key issues and grievances related to the overall development of Mangaldai town raised by Mangaldai Media Circle (MMC) on February 15, Darrang Deputy Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey on Sunday inspected various locations of Mangaldai town to make an on-the-spot study.

Accompanied by Bhargab Kumar Das, president, and Mayukh Goswami, secretary of MMC, Deputy Commissioner Ngatey visited the abandoned stretch of wetland known as ‘Mora Nadi’, River Bega which has been struggling for its life following unabated encroachment on its both the banks which is almost used as the dumping ground, the pitiable condition of the almost abandoned ‘Gandhi Smriti Udyan’-the only free space for recreation and the site where the ashes of Dr Bhupen Hazarika was emersed.

The media organization in a letter on February 15, apprised the Deputy Commissioner on the perennial waterlogging problem of Mangaldai town which submerged all the streets and lanes even in small shower due to construction of drains without proper scientific plan despite flowing of two rivers through the town, making the long stretch of wet land called ‘Mora Nadi’ behind the main branch of SBI free from unabated encroachments and utilize it for an alternate route of the busy LNB road and also develop it as an attractive visitors site.

The letter also mentioned some other issues like saving the River Bega from human-induced pollution, arranging dredging of its bed and beautification of the surroundings, developing the present district library auditorium to an advanced auditorium with all modern facilities like central air conditioning and proper sound system, appointment of medical specialists and nursing staff in Mangaldai Civil Hospital- the backbone of the public health care system of the area in proportion to the growing demands of the patients, erecting welcome gates at both the border entrances of the district displaying the rich folk culture of the district, similar high-rise gates at sites in Mangaldai and Sipajhar leading to the historical Pathorughat peasants’ martyrs memorial and also at Dalgaon leading to Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve for visitors attraction and renovation of the historic ‘Gandhi Smriti park’, Mangaldai as a recreation and amusement centre especially for children and senior citizens.

Deputy Commissioner Ngatey after making the on-the-spot visit expressed his deep concern over the pitiable condition of River Bega and the unabated encroachment on the plot of 17 bighas of land which was meant to be reserved for a memorial ground in memory of Dr Bhupen Hazarika as per the resolution passed in the meeting of the land advisory committee. He also assured to take up initiative for beautification and development of both the ‘Mora Nadi’ and the Gandhi Smriti Udyan.

The MMC has highly appreciated the quick and positive of the Deputy Commissioner towards the key issues relating to the district headquarters town.
