KOKRAJHAR: A media workshop on the topic, “Role and responsibilities of journalists for transformation in society” was organized by Information and Public Relations department of BTC in collaboration with Bodoland Journalists’ Association in connection with the observation of National Press Day, 23 at IT Park in Kokrajhar on Tuesday.
As part of the programme, Dr. Nilut Swargiyary, EM of I&PR department inaugurated the media workshop while Joint Secretary of I&PR development, BTC Ractim Buragohain gave the welcome address. EM Dr. Swargiary also launched the website of the department. The Editor-in- Chief of Newslive Syed Zarir Hussain spoke at the media workshop as resource person.
In his speech, the CEM of BTC Pramod Boro said media was the most responsible section in democracy. He said media could bring good change in the society and show a right direction. He said for vibrant democracy, media is utmost important and without media, the four pillars of the democracy is meaningless. He called upon all journalists to work for the welfare and reformation in the society.
“A journalist can work in a variety of sectors, making them a vast package in and of themselves. It can change a society, system, can reform and bring peace and chaos as well,” he said adding that each and every one of us is responsible for everything. He assured that the government of BTC will construct model offices with all required facilities inclusive of e-library for journalists in 10 sub divisions of BTC.
Over 150 journalists of BTC districts, Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur and Udalguri participated in the media workshop. Five seniormost journalists one from each district were honoured and felicitated with aronai, citation and memento. They are Swapan Ech of Kokrajhar, Hemen Sarma of Chirang, Alkash Ali of Baksa, Ananda Ramchiary of Tamulpur and Naba Kr Deka of Udalguri.
