DHUBRI: A Media Workshop on Malnutrition among Children organized by UNICEF, Assam and Cotton University, in collaboration with BN College, was held in the Digital Hall of the college on Monday. A senior journalist and UNICEF Media Consultant, Mrinal Talukdar in his introduction speech said that the children of Dhubri district had been suffering from severe malnutrition on various parameters, including stunting which is highest in the district compared to other districts in Assam.

"Dhubri district (48.5 percent) has the highest stunted children compared to Kamrup district (22.6 percent) lowest in Assam," Talukdar pointed out.

Talukdar informed through power-point display that not only stunting, the other parameters recorded were also high, which was a matter of great concern and needed strong media intervention to highlight the bare facts of malnutrition amongst the children in the Dhubri district.

In the workshop, Head of the Department Women Studies of Gauhati University, Dr. Alpana Borgohain, Assistant Professors of Mass Communication and Journalism, Dr Muktikam Hazarika, Jeet Moni Gogoi and Partha Prabal Goswami also spoke at length and explained the prevalence of malnutrition amongst children in details, including crime and sexual harassment by referring to POCSO Act, 2012 and Juvenile Justice Act. Principal of Dhubri Medical College and Hospital, Dr Ankumoni Saikia also delivered a speech in the workshop and called upon the media persons to work together to eradicate the stigma of highest prevalence of malnutrition amongst the children. Altogether 22 media persons across the Dhubri district participated in the workshop.
