Meet on preparedness to combat flood held in Silchar

SILCHAR: In a bid to check the flood situation during monsoon season in the district, Cachar district administration in association with District disaster management authority held a review meeting on preparedness to combat the flood situation as different areas of the district are inundated due to heavy rainfall causing inconvenience to the public.

Therefore, the preparatory meeting was held with the initiative of the district administration and district disaster management authorities at the conference hall of DC’s office here on Wednesday. The meeting was presided over by the Deputy commissioner, Rohan Kumar Jha in presence of Chief executive officer, DDMA, Yubaraj Borthakur and other officials of line departments.

At the outset, Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha reviewed the district level disaster preparedness plan for 2023-24, block level flood preparedness, reports and discussed at length about the departmental preparation of flood preparedness etc. with officials of various departments concerned. It was informed that in case of any kind of calamity in the district and in case of any damage, the report should be made through the format provided by District disaster management authority.

In the meeting, DC Jha said that depending on the experience of the past flood situation each department should prepare for this flood and also directed to take department wise planning and hold meetings. The Deputy Commissioner also said that in those schools where relief camps are held, training should be arranged for the teachers, health workers, Besides, DC Jha suggested that all the arrangements like toilets/sanitation, drinking water, electricity etc. should be made properly in these relief camps. He said that in addition, arrangements should be made to keep relief materials and cattle feed etc. in two or three circles so that the people sheltered in the relief camp do not face any problem. He also instructed every department under the district to be alert in this regard.

DC Jha directed that every department should submit its report before, during and after the disaster. He mentioned that as the State government will conduct a survey in every district for the flood situation. He directed every department to be alert.

DC Rohan Kumar Jha also emphasized the progress of dam works in the district and ensured the provision of geo bags in all the dams where overflowing of water has been noticed in the past floods. He also asked to ensure proper functioning of the sluice gates.

DC Jha also asked to submit its report on April 11 and inquired about the details of the water pump. He also urged the Department of Food and Civil Supplies to hold a meeting with the various vendors of food items concerned so that there are no complications in the supply of food items during calamity and price hike etc., stated a press release.
