TEZPUR: In view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases across Sonitpur district, Medical Inspector of Plantations, Tezpur, Dr Pradip Kumar Lahkar organized a meeting to discuss about the COVID-19 protocols in the tea estates of Sonitpur district. The meeting was held at the Assistant Labour Commissioner's office in Tezpur on Monday.

On the occasion, Joint Director of Health Services, Sonitpur, District Immunization Officer, secretary of ABITA, TAI, senior managers and doctors from various tea gardens in the district were also present.

In the meeting, Dr Lahkar directed all the tea-garden managements to create extensive mass awareness among the public to make the anti-COVID vaccination drive successful. Dr Lahkar stressed the need to widely conduct Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) for detection of COVID-19 patients among the tea -garden workers. He also directed to take all precautionary measures as per the COVID-19 protocols.

Joint Director of Health Services, Dr Jiauddin Ahmed said that till Monday no Coronavirus-positive case had been detected in the tea estates of Sonitpur district, adding that RAT tests were being conducted in almost all the tea gardens. He also requested the tea-garden managements to keep at least 10 beds ready in the isolation ward for treating the asymptomatic COVID patients. Dr Ahmed also suggested that the symptomatic COVID patients should be sent to the designated COVID Hospital and Tezpur Medical College & Hospital (TMCH).
