TEZPUR: Dr Pradip Kumar Lahkar, Medical Inspector of Plantations, Tezpur convened a meeting on Saturday in the Assistant Labour Commissioner's office, Tezpur to discuss about COVID protocol for the safety of the medical and paramedical staff of tea garden hospitals.

Secretary and chairman of ABITA and TAI, Tezpur, senior doctors of Ghoirali tea estate and Phulbari tea gardens were present. Dr Lahkar requested all garden management through their association to provide all protective materials to medical staff to examine the patients and also to ensure use of masks and maintaining COVID protocol while patients attend hospitals and to keep constant touch with district health authorities. The associations thanked the district administration and health authorities for their cooperation to control deaths due to COVID-19 in tea estates of Sonitpur. Official sources said that in Sonitpur district, in the tea gardens total 6,017 people were tested, out of which 160 people tested positive and one fatality was reported in Phulbari Tea Estate.
