DOOMDOOMA: A meeting of the recently reactivated ASS (Assam Science Society), Doomdooma Branch was held to plan the new agenda of the organization.

The meeting was held with Dr Miladev Goswami on the chair at Lotus Academy on Sunday. It was held in response to a call by the ASS to all its affiliated branches to suggest activities to be undertaken by the new executive committee for 2021- 2023 in its webinar with presidents and secretaries of the different branches on April 19, prior to its executive meeting on April 21.

Former branch secretary Dhiren Deka ,while explaining briefly the origin of ASS about seven decades ago, narrated various activities undertaken by Doomdooma branch since its establishment in 1983. He also read out the Letter of ASS (No. ASS/GA/2021-22/49 dated April 8, 2021) wherein it was suggested to put forward various measures on membership growth, enhancement of sale prospect of its published books and the monthly magazine Bigyan Jeuti, fund collection and the identification of local problems of the branches and its solutions by the branches. The members discussed the problems of Doomdooma like lowering of its ground water level, non-availability of pure drinking water to general public, deteriorating standard science and mathematics learning amongst the students.

Dhiren Deka said that he had already discussed about the inclusion of Doomdooma-Dibru River in the project titled 'Threatened river and wetlands' undertaken by ASS. The meeting, besides taking a few resolutions on the above subjects, elected a new 10-member executive committee for 2021-2023 with Dr Miladev Goswami as president, Jhikananda Borgohain and Prabin Mazumdar as vice-presidents and Dhiren Deka as secretary.
