Meeting held to review progress of developmental schemes in Chirang

KOKRAJHAR/BONGAIGAON: District Development Committee (DDC) meeting of Chirang district for the month of April, May and June was held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Friday.

The meeting was presided over by its chairman and secretary, BTC, Bhabani Prasad Sarma. In the meeting, he assessed and reviewed the progress of schemes being implemented by various departments like PWD, agriculture, education, handloom and textiles, soil conservation, industry, sericulture, P&RD, water resources, PHE and veterinary department. He asked the Chief Scientist, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kajalgaon to organize a joint meeting of agriculture, veterinary, irrigation, fishery, soil conservation department in order to strengthen coordination mechanism among each other so that they could play their roles properly in doubling the farmers' income.

When asked by the chairman, the PWD (R&B) Executive Engineer informed that under one-time special assistance, total 25 schemes were taken up and out of these, 12 had been completed and rest 13 were about to be completed. He also informed about implementation of four schemes under NLCPR and 37 schemes under PMGSY of 2018-19 in the district. The chairman asked the Executive Engineer to ensure early completion of the remaining works and to submit detail reports on the status of the schemes of other departments implemented by them in the next DDC meeting.

The district agriculture officer informed the house about distribution status of tractors to genuine farmers under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sanman Nidhi and Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana. Stressing the need of increasing production of rice, pulses and oil seeds, the chairman asked the District Agriculture Department to encourage the farmers to use latest machineries in their cultivation work. In this regard, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra chief scientist who was present in the meeting said that as the climate and soil condition of Chirang was very good for any cultivation purpose, they were giving training to many farmers on multiple cultivation. The meeting was attended by all the district heads of the departments, including Lead District Manager and RSETI in-charge of Chirang district.
