 KOKRAJHAR: A crucial training session for law enforcers was meticulously organized at the SP Office Conference Hall in Chirang, focusing specifically on the tobacco control initiative and its alignment with the cigarettes and other tobacco products act (COTPA), 2003.

Eminent attendees included Satya Raj Hazarika, IGP, Pranjit Borah, SP, Dr.Rashmi Rekha Sharma Additional SP along with prominent figures like Dr. Heramba Bhattachryya from the State Tobacco Control Cell, Satyajit Das, the State Project Coordinator representing the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, The Union, Dr. Raju Kumar Das, the District Nodal Officer of the District Tobacco Control Cell in Chirang, also graced the event alongside a cessation psychologist, TB officer Dr. Pandey.

The event delved deeply into comprehensive discussions that extensively covered the societal burden induced by tobacco consumption and its inherent hazards. Notably, the capacity-building aspect of the training centred on fostering a thorough understanding of the COTPA act, in addition to exploring other pertinent laws related to tobacco control.

An extraordinary outcome of the training was the formulation of a tobacco-free locale. This strategic roadmap is designed to establish a framework for consistent enforcement efforts throughout the district.

The participation of police officers above the rank of sub-inspector from a significant and wide-ranging representation was seen. These officers are poised to play a vital role in intensifying COTPA enforcement measures in the district, aimed at safeguarding the well-being of Chirang’s children and all citizens against the harmful effects of tobacco.

In essence, the training session stands as a pivotal step toward creating a safer, healthier, and tobacco-free environment in Chirang, championed by a diverse group of law enforcement professionals committed to protecting the community from the detrimental impacts of tobacco usage.
