DIBRUGARH: A meeting was held on Thursday in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office , Dibrugarh to discuss about various development initiatives to be taken under the special development package of Rs 125 crore for the Motok community as announced by the Assam Government, stated a press release.
The meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha, was also attended by MLA of Chabua, Binod Hazarika and MLA of Lahowal, Rituparna Baruah, Assam Hydro-Carbon & Energy Limited chairman Punakan Baruah, District Development Commissioner Partha Pratim Bairagi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ranjit Konwar and the representatives of Sadou Asom Motok Sanmilan, Sadou Asom Motok Mahila Parishad, Sadou Asom Motok Yuva Chatra Parishad, Sadou Asom Motok Yuva ChatraSanmnilan and other members of Motok organizations from districts having Motok population such as Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Dhemaji and Jorhat.
In the very beginning, the District Development Commissioner gave a brief overview about the special development package of Rs 125 crore that had been announced by the Assam Government and on the major components and types of works allowed to be taken up under this special package under sports and culture, skill development and livelihood and emotional connect with special outreach programme areas along with beneficiary-oriented schemes to create employment opportunities among the youths of Motok community living in various districts. Dibrugarh district will work as the nodal district to implement the schemes which are to be taken up under the package.
Speaking in the meeting, Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha said that Dibrugarh district administration would work in close coordination with each Motok organization and with district administrations of other nearby districts having Motok population while implementing and monitoring the schemes. He also said, "We will ensure all kinds of facilitation and we will work involving all stakeholders. But the proposal of all schemes will have to come from the Motok organizations themselves."
He also said that three sub-committees – sports sub-committee, historical monument and cultural sub-committee and livelihood sub-committee - would be formed involving members from each Motok organization and departmental officials concerned. Each of the three committees will be headed by one Additional Deputy Commissioner and they will submit proposals for schemes to be taken under the specified areas and one main Selection and Advisory committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner and having members from Motok organizations will select and finalize the schemes on a priority basis.
