TEZPUR: A meeting on wage compensation for tea garden pregnant women was convened by the Medical Inspector of Plantations, Tezpur at the Assistant Labour Commissioner's office in Tezpur on Friday.

Secretary of ABITA, TAI, chairman of ABITA, Joint Director of Health, Sonitpur, DPM and other officers of NHM and senior doctors of tea gardens of Sonitpur district were present in the meeting.

During the programme, Dr Pradip Kumar Lahkar requested all the managers through the Association to take initiative and to entrust welfare officers also so that all pregnant women of tea gardens get the benefit of wage compensation schemes properly which would reduce the maternal mortality rate by encouraging the pregnant women for regular antenatal and post-natal check-up. He also urged all tea garden authorities to create awareness among female workers through mothers' clubs to stop early marriage, frequent pregnancy and encourage family planning and good food habits during pregnancy as poor intake of food and frequent pregnancy are major causes of maternal death due to anemia.

The Joint Director of Health Services requested all to extend their cooperation to implement government health schemes in tea gardens. He expressed his gratitude to the management for their active participation in COVID vaccination for which Sonitpur district achieved around 90 per cent coverage of vaccination target among garden population.
