SHILLONG: Following the incidence of violence against devotees, the Central Puja Committee (CPC) of the state of Meghalaya has condemned the miscreants responsible for the same. Meanwhile, the local police were able to arrest several people in relation to the incident.

The Central Puja Committee of Meghalaya has condemned the action of manhandling and attack on devotees by miscreants at Mahadev Khola Dham located in the state on July 24. A meeting held on Wednesday was attended by officials besides representatives of several temples who expressed their concerns and anguish regarding the incidence of violence.

Calling these incidents very uncommon in the state of Meghalaya and that it is known for religious harmony. The meeting also resolved to condemn the incident and urged the state government to make arrangements towards the security of the devotees in the temple complex. They also mentioned that a large number of devotees visit this temple around the year to perform the various rituals according to the statement issued by the Central Puja Committee on Thursday. They also requested all the representatives of the different temples of the state to install proper CCTV cameras in their individual places of worship and to maintain a strict vigil to ensure that such activities can be avoided in the future.

A total of 5 miscreants have been arrested by the state police for their alleged involvement in attacking devotees at a temple in Meghalaya. These individuals attacked the devotees at a Lord Shiva temple located in Shillong on Monday. The authorities also used the CCTV footage to catch the miscreants who were involved in this incident.

Meanwhile, allegations came up against the Khasi Students Union (KSU) against this incident of violence, which they denied. Social Welfare Minister, Paul Lyngdoh however called this act of blaming irresponsible and stated, “They probably have the intent to give this issue a communal colour and to malign the image of Meghalaya.”
