BOKO: A village road between Makoibari village to Sundarpur village was being repaired by locals when a Meghalaya Police team led by P D Sangma, Magistrate, Mawsynrut, and Ialamlad Kharkongor, SDPO, Meghalaya Police, reached the spot and claimed that the road was under Meghalaya so they should stop working.

When the locals opposed, Meghalaya Police allegedly caught five people, including two local youths Sambhu Chetry and Hari Thapa and three labourers Ronesh Pegu, Nipou Boro and Sunendra Boro. Meghalaya Police allegedly beat them up brutally and took them to Meghalaya. The incident happened on Thursday evening around 4 pm. After that, the people of Lumpi on Assam side surrounded the Lower Lumpi police outpost on Assam side to bring back them. Around 8 pm, Meghalaya police released them. A Boko Police team led by second officer in-charge of Boko PS, Rituparna Bania reached Lower Lumpi and controlled the situation. Assam Police have now started investigation in this matter.
