Members of Lion and Leo Club of Dhubri tie ‘rakhi’to jail inmates

DHUBRI: Members of Lion and Leo Clubs of Dhubri tied‘rakhi’to the jail inmates of Dhubri District Jail on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan in the jail premises on Thursday.

Nearly 538 under trial and convicted jail inmates were reportedly tied ‘rakhi’ on their wrists and sweets were served, which brought smiles on the faces of the inmates and a brief event in the jail turned out to be farvour of festivity.

Superintendent of Dhubri District Jail Bapon Chakraborty joined the event and praised the Lions and Leo members for their love and affection towards the inmates.

In his brief speech, President of Dhubri Lions Club, Sanjay Kumar Sethia said this was an occasion celebrated across the country every year between sisters and brothers to cement relationship.“I hope that all the inmates now languishing in jail will be reformed and become good citizens of this country when they are released,” Sethia said. As many as 10 girls and women, including social worker, Sangita Sharma and president of Dhubri Leo Club, Barkha Bharukha, tied ‘rakhi’ on the wrists of jail inmates.
