HOWRAGHAT: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGCL) on Friday at Arboretum Hall, Diphu for construction of a 24-megawatt hydro power within Karbi Langpi Hydro Electric Project in the middle of the Borapani River which will be known as Karbi Langpi Middle -2 Project.
The MoU was signed by Mukul Kumar Saikia, Principal Secretary of KAAC on behalf of the council, and Kanu Kamal Bhuyan, Chief General Manager, signed on behalf of Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd.
During the ceremonious exchange of the document, Chief Executive Member of KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang, other Executive Members and senior bureaucrats of the council were present.
The Chief General Manager of APGCL appreciated Tuliram Ronghang for his cooperation in initiating the 24-Megawatt hydro-electric project. He said that Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong autonomous district would benefit from this project.
The agreement will remain applicable for 35 years. The council authority will allocate 22.5 hectares of land to APGCL for construction of the project which will cost Rs 300 crore. This project will generate employment for skilled youths, 171 affected families will receive free power for domestic use for five years and compensation of Rs 34.09 crore.
The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council will receive six per cent revenue every year from APGCL. Kanu Kamal Bhuyan also informed that departments like Fisheries and Tourism will substantially benefit from this project.
