Memorandum submitted to chairman of Bilasipara Municipal Board demanding fixation of taxes

BILASIPARA: Dayal Paul, working president of Bilasipara Nagarik Adhikar Suraksha Samity and Dr, Muzammel Hoque, secretary of the samity jointly addressing a press meet on Saturday said that Bilasipara Municipal Board has fixed urban and property taxes abnormally. In protest against this illegal fixation of taxes, the Nagarik Adhikar Surkha Samity submitted a memorandum to the chairman of Bilasipara Municipal Board demanding fixation of taxes at a low rate.

Minister Ashok Singhal has requested the municipalities to fix the taxes increasing upto 25%. The neighbouring municipalities of Kokrajhar, Sapatgram, Bongaigaon etc have fixed the taxes increasing upto 25% of the existing rate. But the Bilasipara Municipality has fixed the taxes at an abnormally high rate which is unbearable on the part of the people living within Bilasipara Municipality area. The samity has decided to challenge the matter in the Gauhati High Court if the municipality does not decrease the rate of taxation.
