HAILAKANDI: A two-day training programme on micro-irrigation under Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan-III (KKA-III) (Aspirational District Programme) concluded here on Saturday.
The District Agriculture Office organized the training programme on Coverage of Micro Irrigation under KKA-III (Aspirational District Programme) with the aim of equipping the farmers with latest technologies, schemes and advantages of micro-irrigation to accelerate their awareness, knowledge, and adoption of integrated micro irrigation networks to ensure water efficiency at the farm level and achieve economy of scale.
A total of 60 farmers from Hailakandi and Lala revenue circles participated in the programme.
District Agriculture Officer, Incharge, Dr.AR Ahmed, ADO, Katlicherra, Padum Borah, ADO, Hailakandi, Samir Medhi, ADO, Boalipar, Trideep Rajak, ADO, Lala Bazaar, Simanta Das, SMS, WUS, Dr. K Tayal Senzeba, Subash Chatterjee from Premiere Irrigation and Md. Mashfuqulla Syed from Jain Irrigation conducted the programme.
Explaining about the scope and opportunity of micro irrigation under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) (Horticulture), Dr. Ahmed guided the rural masses on the scheme, more specifically on the 'Per Drop More Crop' component of the scheme which focuses on micro irrigation system - sprinkler, drip, pivots, rain-guns etc. that promotes precision farming by making water available in a targeted manner to the root zone of crops. He also explained about different subsidy schemes available under Aspirational District Programme to mobilize the use of micro irrigation as a strategy of gender sensitization to reduce drudgery of women. Dr. Ahmed also encouraged formation of grass root farmers' organizations to increase extension outreach in order to disseminate information on micro irrigation technologies and to raise awareness.
SMS, WUS Dr. Senzeba gave a comprehensive idea on sprinkler layout, wetted root zone, water wetted zone and prevention of fruit cracking by prudent and efficient utilization of sprinkler and drip irrigation system.
Chatterjee from Premiere Irrigation discussed the importance of 'Micro Irrigation through Public Private Partnership'. He highlighted the important linkage between PMKSY (Horticulture) and CMSGUY schemes to achieve the objective of doubling farmers' income by 2022.
Mashfuqulla Syed from Jain Irrigation presented a detail analysis on cost of sprinkler and drip irrigation under PMKSY (Horticulture) to enable the poor and marginal farmers take decisive economic decisions.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks by ADO, Katlicherra, Padum Borah.
