HAFLONG: Nandita Gorlosa, Minister for Power, Cooperation etc. inaugurated the new building of Fire and Emergency Services at Maibang on Thursday. The new building constructed at the cost of Rs. 2.5 crore has been successfully completed in the span of three years, as informed by the special DGP-cum-Director, Fire and Emergency Services Mukesh Aggarwal.

Minister Nandita Gorlosa attended the programme as chief guest. She was accompanied by Nazreen Ahmed, Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner, Mukesh Aggarwal, Special DGP & Director of Fire and Emergency Services. Along with them, Executive Members of NCHAC, Nipolal Hojai and Bijit Langthasa were also present as special guests at the inauguration programme.

Minister Gorlosa, while addressing the public during the meeting, said that this Fire Station would attend to all calls during fire and emergency situations in Maibang and its neighbouring areas. She informed that the strength of the fire station was currently 11 out of 15 and the remaining vacant posts would be filled up soon. Lauding the efficiency and dedication of the people in this service, the minister spoke about the achievements of the department.

Speaking on the occasion, EM Bijit Langthasa expressed his happiness on inauguration of the new building. He urged the authorities to also modernize and strengthen the service station. EM Nipolal Hojai stressed the need for adopting safety measures. He appealed to the people to co-operate and be aware of the service so that the fire brigade personnel can render timely action to minimize the loss of properties.

Special DGP & Director Mukesh Aggarwal said that during the recent calamity in various parts of the State, the department personnel successfully rescued more than 19,000 people and around 500 livestock. He thanked Parimal Langthasa, the donor of land and informed that the department was in process of setting up two more new fire stations in Dima Hasao at Mahur town and Harangajao. Currently, there are three existing fire stations in the district - one each at Haflong, Umrangso and Maibang.

Deputy Commissioner Nazreen Ahmed spoke about the diversified activity of the Fire & Emergency Services these days, especially during disasters. She lauded the team for all their contribution, especially during the disaster that occurred in Dima Hasao in May and later again in June. She spoke about the government initiatives to modernize and strengthen the services of the department.
