GAURISAGAR: Sivasagar district administration has been keeping a strict vigil on engagement of child labour and has cracked down upon such malpractices as and when detected.

On Thursday, on receipt of a complaint through the child helpline number 1098, the district administration promptly and successfully rescued an 11-year-old minor girl engaged at a local household located in the Central Market area. Under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner and District Child Protection Officer (in-charge) Nuzhat Nasrin, the operation was conducted by District Child Labour Task Force and the team consisted of Executive Magistrate Dipawoli Kurmi, Labour Inspector Uttam Pegu, Social Worker of the office of the Child Protection Officer, Dipak Taye, assistant under Child Welfare Committee Samir Ali and Police Officer Marchila D. Sangma.

During preliminary investigation it was learnt that the minor girl hails from Hatigaon Chariali of Guwahati. After the rescue, necessary medical tests of the child were done and then the child was presented before the Child Welfare Committee. The rescued child will be kept at Aahana Children Home at Jaysagar till the genuine identity of her parents is ascertained. Meanwhile, Labour Inspector Uttam Pegu lodged an FIR at the Sivasagar Police Station regarding the matter.
