Minor girl sexually assaulted in Kokrajhar district

Kokrajhar: In yet another horrifying incident, a minor girl was sexually assaulted in Kokrajhar district.

According to the sources, the victim was a 6-year old child who was allegedly sexually assaulted by an elderly married man. The incident happened on February 26 at around 4 pm when the girl was playing near her house. The accused, identified as Renta Tudu, a father of two young children, took the 6-year old girl to the nearby bushes while she was playing and sexually assaulted her. Tudu is stated to be a distant relative of the victim and lives near the victim’s house. When the child returned home, her mother saw her bleeding. She was first taken to a nearby local pharmacy and then to Kokrajhar Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital.

When her mother asked her, the girl narrated the whole incident. The villagers caught the accused and handed him over to the police. An FIR was lodged at Kokrajhar police station in this connection on Friday.

The incident is similar to another case that took place in Kokrajhar earlier this week. On February 23, a 9-year old child was allegedly raped by an elderly man. The child was playing alone near her house when the accused, identified as Sajibul Haque, who lives in the neighborhood, took the child to his house on the pretext of watching television and committed the crime. He even threatened the child of dire consequences if she told anyone.

The victim was later admitted to Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital. A case has been registered against Sajibul Haque. The accused is on the run.

The District Child Welfare Committee, Kokrajhar has taken up both the cases.
