Minor girl sexually assaulted; minor accused arrested in Tinsukia District

DIGBOI: A male of around 15 years of age was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a four-year-old minor girl in Kalibari area under Bordumsa Police Station in Tinsukia District, police said on Saturday. The accused has been identified as Kumar Kumal — a resident of that area of Bordumsa in Tinsukia District of Upper Assam. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon when the girl belonging to the tea-tribe community was in the paddy field. The accused offered her fruits and after escorting her to a secluded place under a tree, he reportedly assaulted her sexually, states the FIR.

The victim later narrated her ordeal to her poor parents who were initially pressurized by accused's relatives to abstain from informing the police.

Meanwhile, based on the FIR dated August 6, 2021, the accused was booked u/s 376(2) (1) IPC and R/W 4 of POSCO Act. The Bordumsa Police registered a case — 47 /2021, in this regard. "After medical examination, the minor accused was produced before the Court at Tinsukia on Saturday afternoon," informed a police source.
