GUWAHATI: The mother of the minor victim in the recent Dima Hasao torture incident has come forward with disturbing claims, stating that her daughter was forcibly kept naked for prolonged periods and forced to eat garbage from the house's dustbin by the accused army Major and his wife.
A horrific case of alleged child torture has emerged in Assam, where an Army Major and his wife have been arrested on charges of subjecting a minor girl, working as domestic help at their residence, to extreme brutality.
Major Shailendra Yadav and his wife, Kimmy Ralson, were apprehended by the police in Assam's Dima Hasao district earlier this week in connection with the case. Major Yadav had married Ralson while stationed in Dima Hasao, and it was during this period that they brought the minor girl, originally from Haflong town, to work as domestic help.
The victim's mother, in an interview with a news agency on Thursday, recounted the harrowing experiences her daughter endured, alleging that the accused couple subjected her to physical and psychological torment. She disclosed that her daughter's teeth were broken, her face bore burn marks, and her ears had been mutilated. The girl, who is just 16 years old, was reportedly unable to speak properly and exhibited signs of significant trauma upon her return home.
"They used to keep my daughter naked for several hours and unleash extreme physical harassment on her.
“When she asked for food, they forced her to eat garbage from the dustbin at home. I want them to get punished for all these tortures", she said.
The family members of the victim further claimed that they were never allowed to communicate with the girl during her time with the accused in Himachal Pradesh.
"My daughter is only 16, but she looks like an old lady now. Her teeth were broken, she has burn marks on her face, and her ears were chopped. She is not even capable of talking properly," the mother said.
Medical examinations conducted on the victim revealed numerous injuries, including shattered teeth, a fractured bone near her nose, a severe cut on her tongue, and several burn marks on her body.
According to Mayank Kumar, Superintendent of Police in Dima Hasao district, the girl had wounds from head to toe, some of which were severe. The victim told authorities that she had endured six months of torture.
Major Yadav and his wife offered a different explanation for the girl's injuries, asserting that she had frequently fallen and occasionally mishandled hot water, leading to burns on her skin.
The police reported that Major Yadav had served as a senior officer in the Assam Rifles in Dima Hasao before being promoted to the rank of Major in the Indian Army.
A case has been registered against the accused couple under various sections, and they are currently in custody following a court order. Meanwhile, Miguel Das, a child rights activist from Assam, expressed shock at the level of violence against children in this case, stating that he had never witnessed such brutality before.
