GUWAHATI: In a shocking robbery incident in Assam's Darrang district, some miscreants entered a Hanuman Mandir and looted at least four idols along with cash from the temple.
The incident took place in an iconic and historical Hanuman Mandir located in the Kharupitia town area of the Darrang district. The temple was reportedly looted on Monday 28 March during night hours.
According to reports, the unidentified miscreants managed to enter the temple premises by breaking several locks at different entry gates.
The thieves looted 4 idols along with other important objects worth lakhs as informed by the locals.
Apart from the idols and valuable things inside the temple, the miscreants also looted the cash in the donation box by breaking it.
Meanwhile, the police reached the temple site and started a detailed investigation of the incident to find the culprits who looted the Mandir.
However, it is informed that no arrest has been made yet till the filling of the incident report.
Locals of the area stated that they informed the police immediately after the incident came to light but the police did not reach the crime scene on time.
The people in Kharupetia mainly raised fingers at the senior officer as he failed to reach on time when informed about the robbery.
Some of the locals even blamed the Kharupetia police officials for the entire incident for their lack of fast response in sharp contrast to the state government's recent concept of 'smart police' to upgrade the state police.
It may be mentioned that similar incidents of robbery in temples are previously reported from different parts of the state.
Earlier, some unknown miscreants looted a temple in the Golaghat district of Assam and took away cast along with other expensive objects including gold kept in the temple.
