LAKHIMPUR: A firing and looting incident that took place on NH-15 on Friday evening at Gogamukh, the border town of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts, has created massive sensation in both districts.

As per report, a truck laden with some commodities, owned by RC Agency, located at SB Road, Thakurbari of North Lakhimpur town, was sent to Gogamukh on Friday. The truck was driven by a person named Milan Hazong, an employee of the agency. When he returned to Lakhimpur after selling the commodities at Gogamukh and collecting the cash, two unidentified miscreants on a bike shot at Milan Hazong and looted the cash amount of Rs. 3.50 lakh along with some cheques. The incident took place when Milan Hazong went to a commercial institution named Sunil Store after parking the truck in front of Bailung Petrol Pump, which is around 100 meters away from the Gogamukh Police Station. The miscreants could manage to drive away after looting the money.

Though injured Milon Hazong was admitted in North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital on Friday night, he was shifted to Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh for advanced treatment. The culprits have not been traced as yet.
