BAKSA: Some miscreants set fire on a bamboo bridge over the Motonga river of Nagrijuli-Kawli-Kumarikata connecting road along the Indo-Bhutan Border in the district of Baksa under Tamupur Police Station on Saturday night.

Since post independence, people of the locality demanded a bridge over the Motonga river, but no bridge had been constructed by neither State Government nor BTC administration. So for people of the greater area have been suffering from communication problems especially in the rainy seasons. It's regarded as a burning problem for the students and patients from Kawli area as there has been no bridge. It is worth mentioning that numbers of people were washed away by the river while they tried to across the speedy river during rainy season. Few years back BTC Chief of that time Hagrama Mahilary laid foundation stone to construct a concrete bridge over the Motonga River of almost Rs 10 crore. But after making a few parts of some pillars, the construction works were stopped suspiciously. Later on locals made a bamboo bridge over Motonga in 2019 following the model of the model of Saraighat Bridge over the Brahmaputra river. The local youths got together in 2019 and collected Rs. 5 lakh from the area people which encouraged them to make a bamboo bridge over the Motonga River near Kawli. The bamboo bridge occupied places in various paper media and electronic media throughout the State.

However, on Saturday some ill-minded people set it on fire late at night. People gathered after looking at the situation and doused the fire. Receiving the information Nipon Gogoi, officer in charge of Kumarikata Police out post with a police team rushed to the spot and the further investigation is on. Now, due to the fire incident heavy losses in the bridge and the movement has been halted. As the BTC election is going to be held in a short time, the question arises whether is this a political conspiracy?
