Missing Woman Body Recovered from Pond in Barpeta Road

GUWAHATI: A woman who was missing since Monday night has been recovered in a pond by NDRF personnel in Barpeta road.

The deceased woman, identified as Mani Ray Karmakar, wife of Sanjoy Chand, had lost her only son a few months back. She was depressed since then, local people said.

Local people informed the nearby Fire Station after she had gone missing. The Firefighters reached the spot and searched in the pond near the local cremation ground.

However, they could not recover the woman. At last NDRF personnel recovered her body in the pond a pall of gloom prevailed in the area.

On the other hand, sensation prevailed in the Itakhola area, to the north of Jamugurihat after the body of one Sanjib Saikia (23) was recovered from the Monai sluice gate under Itakhola outpost on Tuesday morning.

Sanjib was the only son of Mohan Saikia, a teacher from No. 2 Itakhola. Sharp cut marks were noticed on the head and right hand of the deceased.
