Mizoram Cop Found To Be Involved In Assam Blast, Arrested By Police

The blast had occurred near a police outpost on Tuesday night following a disagreement with the Assam police over the construction of a bridge at the Kachurthal area on the Assam side of the Assam-Mizoram border.

Guwahati: The police from Mizoram has been arrested by the Assam Police in the district of Hailakandi for his being allegedly involved in an explosive blast that occurred near a police post on Tuesday night.

According to the Superintendent of Police of Hailakandi, the policeman has been identified as Laldintwanga, who serves in the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBN) and hails from the Bhairabi area of Kolasib district. 

As per the information provided by the locals, the sound of a high explosive blast was heard at around 1:40 am on Tuesday near the Baicherra BOP under the Ramnathpur police station.

The SP said, "During the investigation, we found that the Mizoram miscreants used detonating cord for blasting the explosive. We have arrested one Mizoram citizen for being involved in the explosive blast."

The Assam police then arrested Laldintwanga and produced him before the court which directed him to be sent to judicial custody. the accused has been booked under sections 120(B), 447 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code, Sec 4 of the PDPP Act and Section 3 of the E.S. Act.

The blast had occurred following a disagreement with the Assam police over the construction of a bridge at the Kachurthal area on the Assam side of the Assam-Mizoram border.

"Since October 26, Mizoram miscreants were illegally constructing an RCC Culvert on Assam's land. It is the same place where they attempted to construct a culvert in August this year," the SP informed.

He added, "Last time, Mizoram lodged a case against us for stealing after we stopped similar construction on our land. But this time, they corporated and removed all the construction from our land after we caught them red-handed. They used their excavator to remove the RCC they constructed."

However, in a new development, it was clarified by the Mizoram police that the policeman in question was not involved in the case. The accused policemen was later released on bail.
