MLA Lawrence Islary inaugurates rural market shed in Silgara
KOKRAJHAR: The Silgara Rural Haat in Kokrajhar district was ceremonially inaugurated by MLA of Kokrajhar (East) Lawrence Islary in presence of Amlan Dash, DGM of NABARD, Assam Regional Office, Guwahati. Sources from NABARD, Kokrajhar said the programme was graced by Kuntal Purkayastha, DDM of NABARD, Kokrajhar, Pramod Kumar Thakur, LDM of UCO Bank, Kokrajhar, officials of project implementing agency Green Leaf and project beneficiaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Lawrence Islary, MLA of Kokrajhar East thanked NABARD for sanctioning the project to Silgara Rural Haat and congratulated NGO-Green Leaf for successfully implementing the project in Silgara. He advised the Bazar Committee to maintain proper hygienic conditions inside the haat and allocate space to vendors based on nature of commodities. He also spoke about the three new Bazar Griha Model being implemented by BTC under phase-I.
Purkayastha said that the project for construction of new Rural Haat with raised platform, proper shed and toilet facility in an area of 150 sqr. metre was sanctioned by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Assam Regional Office, Guwahati to Green Leaf NGO, Kokrajhar on January 25, 2023, to facilitate the marketing of vegetables, fruits, meat, fish etc. for the women vendors, farmers, producers, SHGs etc. The new Silgara Rural Haat is expected to cater to 1000 households of nearby 14 villages with average footfall of 1500 on market days Tuesday and Friday. Apart from getting direct benefit to 50 vendors, additional 200 vendors are expected to be indirectly benefitted from the new haat.
