MLA Prashanta Phukan’s comment equating Muslim voters with a cow condemned

Dibrugarh: The recent derogatory and communal remark of MLA Prashanta Phukan, equating Muslim voters with a cow that doesn’t give milk, has not gone down well with the Muslim community here. An advocate of Dibrugarh Bar Association as well as a noted social activist, Abdul Sajid, through a press communiqué, strongly condemned the statement, and asked Phukan to refrain from making such provocative statements in the near future which could spread communal hatred in the society. The advocate has also demanded an unconditional apology from Phukan, besides asking him to withdraw his statement within 24 hours. Otherwise, Sajid has warned that the Muslim Community of Dibrugarh will institute both civil and criminal proceedings against the MLA in the appropriate forum.
