Boko: Chaygaon MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed on Wednesday visited all the churches and met with the people along the Assam-Meghalaya border on the occasion of Christmas.
Due to the ongoing protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, this year the Drone, Sree and Dilma river festivals had been postponed and very few tourists came to visit the Ukiam area under Chaygaon assembly constituency. MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed assured people not to worry and wished people for Christmas and New Year. He said that he would develop road connectivity in the border areas and the tourist spots.
Enindra R. Marak, president of Garo National Council, said that the Assam-Meghalaya border areas of Chaygaon constituency had many tourist places that had to be developed. Ukiam is one of the famous tourist spots where thousands of tourists visit every year and many local families depend on tourism for their livelihood. But this year they faced a financial crisis due to the ongoing protest against CAA, he said.
