Mobile phone thief gang busted, four held by Ranjit Chetia led Jorhat Police

JORHAT: Jorhat Police headed by Ranjit Chetia, the officer-in-charge of Jorhat Sadar Police Station, arrested four members of an inter-State mobile phone thief gang and recovered 26 touch screen mobile sets from a rented house of one Motiur Rehman of Rajamaidan Kabarstan road on Monday night, said police sources on Tuesday.

The four arrested were Bishnu Kumar Mundra (24), Dipak Kumar Mahato (19), Tiwari Mahato (22) and Rakesh Mahato, all from Jharkhand, along with three linkmen from Rajamaidan New Colony area. They were arrested following a complaint lodged by Ratul Das whose mobile phone was stolen and he lodged an FIR at Jorhat Police Station.

Jorhat Police started investigating and managed to pick up Rakesh Mahato from Mariani Railway Station and recovered the stolen mobile handset from him. Soon after investigation and interrogation, police could locate the gang that was operating from Rajamaidam New Colony, Kabarstan Road under Jorhat police station and arrested three other gang members along with the mobile handsets.

They were produced in a court in Jorhat and remanded to police custody. Police expect to make some more arrests and recover more stolen mobile phone handsets soon.
