TINSUKIA: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tinsukia in collaboration with NABARD launched model millet project under farm sector promotion fund scheme on Wednesday. The programme was aimed at to popularize and promote millet cultivation in the district.

In her welcome address, Priyanka Amonge, Subject Matter Specialist, Agronomy, KVK, Tinsukia explained about the project which is targeted to cover 20 ha (150 bigha) area with 50 farmers from Makumkilla, Margherita, Digboi and Tingraiunder Margherita sub division. Barun Biswas, DDM, NABARD Tinsukia spoke about the implementation of model millet in 23 districts of Assam to create awareness among the farming community. He also emphasized on processing, value addition and formation of FPOs. Trinayan Gogoi, Assistant Secretary of ‘We for You’–an NGO said about the importance and its nutritional value of millets and the simplicity of its cultivation. At the end of the programme the farmers were provided with certified millet seeds along with vermicompost and fertilizer. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr Kripal Borah, Subject Mater Specialist, Soil Science, KVK Tinsukia.
