TINSUKIA: The Election Commission of India made certain opportunities for inclusion of youth in the voters' list besides other provisions like introduction of new voter registration forms, voluntary Aadhaar linkage of the existing electors and authentication of Electoral Rolls Data. In this regard, a press conference was convened at the conference hall DC's office Tinsukia which was addressed by Narsing Pawar Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia on Saturday.

Informing the media persons, Pawar stated that there will be 4 qualifying dates as eligibility for new electors i.e. January 1, April 1, July1 and October 1 of the subsequent year. Along with that, 17+ old youths will be able to apply in advance for enrolling themselves in the Voters' list and the Electoral Roll will be updated every quarter. While new User-friendly forms for voter registration will be introduced w.e.f. August 1, Form 6 & 7 will be used for addition, deletion respectively, Form 8 for correction of details and newly introduced 6B for linking of Aadhaar (voluntary) & EPIC. Pawar further informed that Tinsukia Commerce College has been selected for first campaign venue.

A similar press meet was also organised at the conference hall of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Margherita by Palash Rajkumar Ahom, District Election Officer (DEO). Briefing media persons Aditi Neog, Election Officer (E.O), Margherita said that the Annual Summary Revision will be done with reference to 01.01.2023 so that Electoral Rolls are published before National Voter's Day. Subsequently, Ahom, has sought full co-operation from the media fraternity in disseminating the information, so that no public is unaware of such developments and each eligible individual exercises their right to vote.Apart from the media persons, the meeting was also attended by Master Trainers Latumoni Gogoi and Dilip Kumar Chutia, other administrative officials and staff of the election branch.

Haflong: Nazreen Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO) held a meeting at the DC's conference hall to brief about the changes in electoral form in subsequent to the amendment in section 14 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. With this modification, there is correspondingly modification in the Registration of Electors Rule, 1960.

Providing opportunities to youths of the country to become part of voters list, the ECI's new user-friendly forms for voter registration will be available from August 1. As briefed by the DC, from now onwards, the annual summary revision of electoral rolls will be conducted with reference to January 1 of the year as qualifying date, with three subsequent qualifying dates of the year i.e. April 1, July 1 and October 1.

The modifications have been done in form 6, 7, 8 and 6B.Form 6 will be used only for registration of new voters and the provision for application for shifting from one constituency to another in the earlier Form 6 has been tagged under Form-8 as "Migration". Details of Legal guardian in case of orphan/guru in case of the Third gender can now be given under details of relatives. Some documents have been prescribed for proof of birth and proof of residence. Whereas form-001 for "Application for issue of replacement EPIC" is now merged in the newly modified Form-8. Form 8 is used for the purpose of shifting of residence, correction of entries in the existing electoral roll, replacement of EPIC and Marking of a person with Disability.

DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu on Saturday said the Election Commission of India (ECI) has done some modification for the smooth functioning for the upcoming polls.

Addressing a press conference here, Biswajit Pegu said, "The 17-year-old youngsters will be able to apply in advance for having their names enrolled in voter's list and not necessarily have to await the pre-requisite criterion of attaining the age of 18 years on the 1st January of a year."

The DC further said, "ECI has directed the CEOs/EROs/AEROs of all States to work out tech-enabled solutions so that the youths are facilitated to file their advance applications with reference to three subsequent qualifying dates i.e. April 1, July 1 and October 1 and not just January 1."

"Linking of Aadhaar numbers with voter lists has been made. But if someone doesn't want to share their Aadhaar number or don't have Aadhaar card then he/she should provide more documents," DC informed.

He said, "A new form 6(B) has also been introduced for collecting Aadhaar number of the existing electors. From November 9 to December 8, one can file claims and objections and on January 5,2023, the final draft of the voter list will be published." Dibrugarh district election officer Hrishikesh Baruah was present during the press conference.
