TANGLA: In a bid to promote safe driving, traffic discipline and awareness on the Motor Vehicle Act 2019, Udalguri District Transport Office officials conducted a series of awareness drive on road safety as a part of road safety week from January 11 to January 17. A free eye-check up camp was also conducted at Tangla Motor Sramik Association office in the premises of Bordoloi Bhavan in Tangla town of Udalguri district on Wednesday.
Ophthalmologist Siba Prasad Nath conducted the eye-check up camp where 36 people were diagnosed with common eye problems, including cataract, myopia and hyperopia. Motor Vehicle Inspector, Udalguri Asgar Ali Ahmed, while attending the event, said, “After the new Act came into force on September 1, we have been conducting awareness drives on roads. The MV Act is not a revenue-generating exercise rather emphasizing safety of the people is our prime concern and the Act was also amended in view of increasing road accidents.”
Social activist Boli Ram Deka, businessman Rajiv Laskar and Likhan Das, office bearer of Tangla Motor Sramik Association, also attended the camp.
The road safety drive was conducted across the nook and corner of Udalguri district, including Udalguri, Mazbat, Kalaigaon and Tangla. The district transport officials also rewarded all those who followed traffic rules with a rose. The officials, however, did not impose penalty on the offenders and requested the commuters to follow the traffic rules in letter and spirit.
